How the numbers are worked out
- 1.Nights sold in a year = rooms × 365 × your occupancy. Eight rooms at 60% is about 1,750 nights.
- 2.The share of those nights that comes from booking sites, times your average nightly price, is the revenue they handle.
- 3.Their commission is a percentage of that revenue, charged on the room rate and usually on the whole stay.
- 4.A site of your own pays for itself once the commission it saves in a year covers what it cost to build.
