Key takeaways
- Claude Duet, in research preview since 21 October 2026, is an Anthropic app where Claude acts first: a morning brief, checks every few hours, and tasks done in its own cloud computer.
- It reads and drafts on its own, but waits for your approval before sending a message, paying, signing or deleting; trading securities and moving money between accounts stay off-limits.
- By Anthropic's count it can use over 6,000 connectors, with examples in QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot, Docusign, Canva, Shopify and LinkedIn.
- At launch it's included in Pro and Max plans, US only, by waitlist, on the same usage limits as the rest of Claude; nothing yet for Team, Enterprise or the API.
Claude Duet is a new app from Anthropic where Claude works as a proactive agent: it briefs you each morning, keeps an eye on your connected apps, drafts the work, and asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. Anthropic opened a research preview on 21 October 2026, built around Claude Opus 5.5, on iOS, Android and claude.ai. It is included in Pro and Max plans, US only, by waitlist.
Below: what Claude Duet does on its own and what waits for your approval, which business tools it connects to, how it compares with OpenAI's dots, Anthropic's own fine print, and what it means for a small business in Morocco. Everything comes from Anthropic's launch page, its pricing page and the press, read on 23 October 2026.
What is Claude Duet?#
Picture the owner of a small company on a Monday at 8:30: the accountant's email, three WhatsApp threads from clients, an invoice nobody chased, a meeting that may or may not be today. Claude Duet is built for that person. Anthropic puts it this way:
Today, we're opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf. We built Claude Duet for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track.
The difference from the Claude you may already use is the direction of the conversation. Until now you opened Claude and asked it something. Claude Duet comes to you first: a short message each morning on what matters across your connected apps, then a nudge during the day only when something needs you. You can also hand it tasks, from scheduling a meeting to building a sales forecast or a web app, by Anthropic's list.

How does Claude Duet work?#
- It starts from your Claude account. Your memory, skills and connected apps carry over, so there is little to set up. You message it by typing or by voice, in one ongoing thread.
- It has its own computer. Claude Duet runs in a virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop or phone doesn't need to be on. Describe a task, and it works out which apps to use and what steps to take, then notifies you when it's done or needs a decision.
- It checks in every few hours. Not nonstop: Anthropic says checking constantly would use up your plan's limits much faster. You can tell it what you want to hear about and how often.
Under the hood is Claude Opus 5.5, the model Anthropic introduced on 22 September 2026 and describes as leading in agentic coding and knowledge work, at 40% less cost to run than Opus 5 on typical workloads. Those are Anthropic's numbers, not mine.
What does Claude Duet do on its own, and what waits for you?#
This is the part a business owner should read twice, because it's where the trust question lives. Anthropic draws the line like this:
Claude Duet reads, drafts, and prepares work on its own. But before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it's about to do and waits for your approval.
- On its own: reading your Gmail and Slack, checking QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices, drafting reminders and follow-up emails, preparing a job post, a forecast or a deck, sending the morning brief.
- Only with your OK: sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, deleting anything, buying something.
- Never, even if you say yes: trading securities and moving money between accounts. A new classifier is also meant to refuse sharing the strictest tier of information, such as credit card numbers and government identification; health or personal finance details go out only when you explicitly ask.
You can disconnect any app Claude Duet has access to at any time.

Which business tools can Claude Duet use?#
By Anthropic's count, Claude Duet can use the over 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace. The examples on the launch page read like a small company's week:
- Find the Gmail and Slack messages you've missed and help you reply.
- Check Intuit QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminders.
- Prepare and run payroll in Gusto, with hours, bonuses and reimbursements filled in.
- Draft a job posting and, once you edit and approve, post it to LinkedIn.
- Prepare agreements and send them for review and signature through Docusign.
- Draft follow-up emails using the contact and deal history in HubSpot.
- Turn a product launch into a social campaign in Canva.
- Set up, design and manage a Shopify store (a richer visual editor is "coming soon").
It can also buy things for the business through Link, Stripe's wallet: Claude Duet confirms the item with you, Link asks you to approve the spend, and it pays with a virtual card so your real card number isn't shared. Shop Pay from Shopify works for checkouts at online stores, and sign-in through logins saved in 1Password is announced as coming soon, with your permission.
Claude Duet vs OpenAI dots#
Three weeks earlier, OpenAI announced dots, its own always-on agents, at DevDay on 29 September 2026. The two ideas are close, and the differences are in the details:
- Where it lives. Dots live inside ChatGPT, Slack and Teams. Claude Duet is a separate app on iOS and Android, plus claude.ai.
- The model. Dots run on GPT-6 Astra; Claude Duet on Claude Opus 5.5.
- The apps. OpenAI counts over 4,000 apps for dots; Anthropic counts over 6,000 connectors and plugins for Claude Duet.
- Who gets it. Dots: ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium. Claude Duet: Pro and Max, US only for now, by waitlist.
- What they share. Both have their own cloud computer, both keep working when you close the laptop, and both hold consequential actions for your approval. Claude Duet adds the morning brief and the habit of coming to you first.
Anthropic's own fine print#
The launch page is unusually frank about what the preview can't do yet. Quoting it:
This is an early version of Claude Duet, and it still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent. We built its core functionality around work, so personal errands, such as booking tickets, aren't quite as strong, and it can't yet show you its browser.
- Usage limits are shared. Claude Duet uses the same limits as the rest of your Claude plan. Its background checks count toward them, and bigger tasks, like a financial model or a deck, use more.
- Every few hours, not real time. If your business needs something watched minute by minute, this isn't that.
- Not for teams yet. As VentureBeat read the announcement, there is nothing for Team or Enterprise plans, no Duet API and no enterprise schedule. It's a separate app, apart from the main Claude app, for now.
- Safety is described, not proven. Anthropic says red teams and an external firm penetration tested Claude Duet, that it never directly sees your passwords, and that its public bug bounty covers the product. Those are its claims; the research preview is where they get tested.
What it costs: there is no separate Claude Duet charge during the preview. Claude's pricing page lists Pro at $17 a month with the annual discount ($200 billed up front), or $20 billed monthly, and Max from $100 a month.
The money behind the launch#
Claude Duet lands as Anthropic prepares to go public. CNBC reported on 14 October 2026, citing people familiar with the matter, that Anthropic told investors its third-quarter revenue stands at $16.8 billion, up from $11.6 billion in the second quarter and $4.7 billion in the first, with an initial public offering reportedly slated for November. The same people said Anthropic was profitable on an adjusted basis in the quarter. None of this is an Anthropic statement, so treat it as reporting, not a filing.
What Claude Duet means for a small business in Morocco#
Anthropic quotes a few early users on its launch page, and the stories are the ones any owner will recognise:
- A restaurant owner in South Florida with about 110 employees used it for accounting, customer support and marketing, and went through his invoices store by store. "It brings it all together," he said. "I don't need to open up 100 tabs."
- A real estate broker gets a rundown each morning; one day, without being asked, Claude Duet flagged a property showing that was on her calendar for the wrong day.
- A brand strategist had a client call coming up; it prepared a brief, noticed the call fell right before her flight, and offered to move it.
Those are Anthropic's examples, and the preview isn't available in Morocco yet. But the lesson underneath is already useful here. Every one of those wins came from an app the agent could read: a calendar, an accounting tool, a CRM. An agent can only follow up on what is written down in a system it can reach.
That's the catch for many businesses I meet: the leads are in a WhatsApp chat, the payments in a notebook, the clients in an Excel file nobody updates. Put an agent on top of that and it has nothing to brief you about. Getting your clients, invoices and bookings into one clean place comes first; the agent comes after, whichever company ships it.
I haven't used Claude Duet myself: the preview is US-only. When I can, I'll write up what it's like in practice.
How do you get access to Claude Duet?#
- Join the waitlist on Anthropic's Claude Duet page; Anthropic says it will email you when it's ready for you.
- You need a Pro or Max plan, and a US account for now.
- It's included in those plans during the research preview, on the same usage limits.
- Install the Claude Duet app on iOS or Android, or use it on claude.ai.

Want your business ready for an agent?#
The businesses that will get the most out of Claude Duet, or dots, or whatever ships next, are the ones whose data is already in order. I build custom CRMs and business tools that keep your clients, leads, invoices and bookings in one place, with the access rules you choose, so an agent has something real to read. If you'd rather start with the channel your clients already use, see the WhatsApp AI agent for businesses. And if you want to talk about your own setup, get in touch.
Frequently asked questions
What is Claude Duet?+
Claude Duet is a new app from Anthropic, in research preview since 21 October 2026, where Claude works as a proactive agent: it briefs you each morning on your connected apps, keeps working in the background in its own cloud computer, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
Who can use Claude Duet today?+
US subscribers on the Pro and Max plans, by waitlist. It's included in those plans during the research preview and shares their usage limits. Anthropic has not announced access for Team or Enterprise plans or a Duet API.
Can Claude Duet spend money or send messages without asking?+
No. By Anthropic's rules it reads, drafts and prepares work on its own, but before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything it shows you the action and waits for approval. Trading securities and moving money between accounts are off-limits even with your approval.
How is Claude Duet different from OpenAI dots?+
Both are always-on agents with their own cloud computer that hold consequential actions for your approval. Dots live inside ChatGPT, Slack and Teams on GPT-6 Astra, for Pro and Business Premium users; Claude Duet is a separate app on iOS, Android and claude.ai on Claude Opus 5.5, for US Pro and Max users, and adds a daily morning brief.
